Ciara

Ciara, who’s preparing her new album CICI, set to release in August, wore a Congo Tri look styled by Marni Senofonte and The Dame Effect. The ensemble consists of a black silk shirt and feathered skirt. The jewel-encrusted Atlanta Braves hat only accentuated her effortless cool.

Doechii

Doechii’s gorgeous smile graced the red carpet. She wore a red Miu Miu bandana top and a pleated skirt. The look was styled with chunky bracelets that could replace a trip to the gym and a funky belt with leather and circle chain details. Her floor-length braids are to die for, and I'm as obsessed with her glasses as I am with her 2024 album, Alligator Bites Never Heal.

Mariah Carey

World-class singer Mariah Carey graced the BET Awards with her golden vocals. She wore two looks: a silver gown and a golden mini-dress. I had different opinions on both dresses, so I'm reviewing them separately. Spoiler alert! The silver dress is in the Nope section. The gold dress faired wonderfully under the stage lights. She looked radiant in the mini with her platform heels. The bracelets and hoop earrings befit her pop diva status.

Law Roach

The stylist to the stars stunned in a black velvet suit, bowler hat, and crystal Louboutin boots. The white shirt provides contrast to an otherwise all-black look. The clutch and necklace add subtle intrigue without subtracting from the showstopping hat, also worn by his celebrity client Zendaya.

Andra Day

Andra Day looked amazing in Tony Ward Couture from the Fall 2023 collection. The velvet train added all the drama we could wish for, and the embellished knit bodice reminded me of Halle Berry’s Cat Woman. This look seems divisive, but I’m a hole apologist. They add a bold, modern twist to an otherwise predictable gown.

Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer looked beautiful in blue. She wore a 1993 Haute Couture Chanel cocktail dress. Sourced from the archival clothing store Lily et Cie, this Chanel number compliments her figure. The gold applicates popped against the royal blue, making Palmer glow in her stunning red bob. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the tulle train attached to the back of the dress. It adds a bit of playfulness that I’m not 100% on board for, but how can I be mad when the face card never declines?

Mariah Carey

The silver gown does nothing to bring out Carey’s beauty. The look appears flat and stiff on camera, like an afterthought. If these are the same bracelets from her stage performance, they do nothing to convince me of this look.

Kerry Washington

The Scandal actor, who recently released her new film Shadow Force in May 2025, appeared in an elegant tea-length gown. The black and yellow print wraps around her like a butterfly. She looks lovely in the black pep toe heels, but they are an underwhelming choice, as is a necklace. The look isn’t bad, but it is middle of the road. It feels, dare I say once again… safe.

Kehlani

Kehlani and her stylist, Anastasia Walker, opted for vintage Dior after the R&B singer told Elle Magazine she wanted an early 2000s look. Perhaps it’s the lighting or the styling, but sadly, the dress resembles drapes, and the strappy Tom Ford sandals don’t save it. The photos do little to highlight the stunning embroidery, so the embroidery must be admired through close-up images.

Eniko Hart and Kevin Hart

Eniko Hart wore a silver floor-length gown, and Kevin Hart wore a black suit. I don’t know who constructed these garments, and I’m not sure I want to know. Kevin Hart’s suit is serviceable, although it has bored me to tears. I like Eniko Hart’s purse, but the bunching fabric at the waist makes the gown look ill-fitting.
